Happy Birthday Puggy

It's been Pie's birthday all day and here I am at the end of it finally getting around to telling you. According to Pie, it has been his best birthday ever but stacking that comment up against his numerous concussions leads me to believe that he has a hard time remembering things.

Anyway, the whole weekend was pretty much filled with fun things for the birthday boy. Friday afternoon Pie, Sid and various other scouts and leaders left for a camp out at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Their time was spent equally between holding down the tents during violent wind gusts, eating unconscionable amounts of Cheetos and jerky, and playing capture the flag until the wee hours of the morning on sandy dunes lit by the moon. Aside from needing an institutional size bottle of Visine upon returning home, the boys had a great time. Saturday night after everyone had shaken off the sand we were off for fine dining at the Red Lobster. Remember years ago when the Sizzler restaurant was like really nice? And a few years later it went way down market? Well, Red Lobster is the new Sizzler. It was kinda weird. But the kids loved it! I mean, snow crab legs on the kid menu? Tools to crack the shells, moist towelettes, tiny forks? It's like someone was asking them to eat like Neanderthals.

After dinner we stopped by Marie Calender's to pick up a pie. You see, whenever Pie has a closing he always stops by later with a pie for his clients. Get it? Pie brings them a pie. It's cute and anyway, who doesn't want a pie? Well, Friday afternoon we closed on the Big House. So it was our turn for a pie. Yep, the Big House is now a memory for us. I'm not gonna lie, it stung a little bit. But we needed it to sell and it did so we are really grateful. But as it turns out a person can feel grateful and sad at the same time. Thank goodness for coconut cream--one of the most comforting types of pie there is.

After dinner and pie and knocking the kids unconscious, it was time for me and the birthday boy to head off to his one request--Iron Man 2. It was just a'ight for me, Dog. Mickey Rourke may well be the most personally distasteful human on the planet. Robert Downey Jr. is brilliant at playing the charming yet morally depraved yet completely narcissistic leading man, and Gwyneth Paltrow really should lay off the fake tan. IM 2 was sketchy in the plot department and the rockin soundtrack from the first one (a favorite part for me) was almost completely absent. Even still, it was way better than Fantastic Four--two hours of my life that I am still bitter about.

Of course today was church and naps and choir and dinner at my mom's house, complete with cake and ice cream. I guess it was a really great birthday.

Happy Birthday Pie! Nobody does 45 like you!

I have to second that last line. Seriously, I would NEVER guess he's 45. Would have definitely thought he's 30 something. Must be his hot wife that keeps him young! I'm sure p90x (is that what it's called) and an extremely yellow personality don't hurt either!

Julie, I watched the skit. You're right, it was hilarious, and somewhat validating. It has to be a fairly regular occurance for SNL to make fun of it, right?!
